1. Migration and Remittances:

Reality

This is the topic of my PhD research as of now. Migration is a worldwide and age-old phenomenon. I stay in UAE and NRIs staying in GCC are estimated to remit over USD 19 Billion per annum as remittances to India. Over 35% of these remittances go to Southern states like Kerala, AP, Tamilnadu, Karnataka. Majority of these originate from labourers working in GCC sending remittances to their dependents in India. This does provide a great support, not only to their families, but also to local and regional economies.

Paradox

And then I read about a lot of money taken out of the country, deposited in safe havens around the world by the neo rich. (….And how do they become rich? I really need to understand the meaning of Social work, our education system is very backward, doesn’t really teach you what real social work means…)
